Recently Read: Maphead

Maphead coverMaphead, written by Ken Jennings, is a great book exploring the world of geography and maps.  Written to help bring other mapheads out of their closet, the book explores people who love maps, cartography, and the world around them.

I personally enjoyed the chapters dealing with geographic features (did you know that there are at least two island-on-a-lake-on-an-island-on-a-lake-on-an-island features on Earth?), the evolution of maps and cartography, Geocaching, and new technologies that are bringing maps, cartography, and geography to the people.

If you’ve ever looked at a map for more than just directions or ever created your own fictional place as a way for your mind to escape this book just may be for you.
